i VINCENNES SUN-COMMERCIAL, TUESDAY, APRIL. 18, 2006 Obituaries PAUL W. BEAMAN JR. Paul W. Beaman 79, Vincennes, passed away Sunday morning, April 16, 2006, at his home with his family at his side.
He was born July 30, 1926, in Vincennes, the son of Paul W. Sr. and Myrtle (Hamilton) Beaman. He served his country during World War II in U.S. Army having served in the Pacific Theater being a part of the battle for the Philippines.
He formerly worked as manager for the Knox County Feed and Hatchery and owned A. Beaman's Septic Service. He held memberships in Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, 40 et 8, Eagles and the Moose. He served as Democrat Precinct Committeeman for 22 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Dale Godfrey Beaman in 2001.
His first wife, Rita Doll Beaman, preceded him in 2004. He is survived by his family, Nora and Tom Fraze of Collinsville, Fred and Anita Beaman of Foley, Paula McKim of Lawrenceville, Mike and Julie Beaman of Vincennes, Jane and Dennis Soltwedel of Vincennes, Don and Cindy Beaman of Vincennes; his stepchildren, Mary and John Stangle of Bruceville, Alfred Jr. and Rose Godfrey of Vincennes, Sidney and Kathy Godfrey of Vincennes, Charlie Godfrey of Vincennes, and Norma K. and Buck Lunsford of Vincennes. He was blessed with his grandchildren, Lisa Hastings, Scott, Shannon, Chris, Jason and Nathanael Beaman, Trisha Martens, Stephen Murphy Nicole McKim, Jim Beaman, Rachel Beaman, Jennifer Pyatt, Rebecca Ravellette, Chad, Greg and Zack Beaman; stepgrandchildren, Stanley Eck, Steven Eck, Jonathan Eck, Camy Quarterman, Christy Dormeier, Perry Godfrey, Renee Godfrey, Sidney Godfrey Danny Godfrey, Charles Godfrey Tracey Godfrey, Paul Godfrey, Bucky Lunsford, Tonie Lawton and Christopher Lunsford.
Thirteen great-grandchildren and 28 step great-grandchildren also survive him. Three sisters, Helen Marie Beaman and Evelyn Jane Beaman both of Louisville, and Lucille Hamm of Louisville also survive him. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bill Beaman; and a sister, Pauline Pilgram. The funeral will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home, 521 Vigo with the Rev.
Don Smith and the Rev. Betty Crowley officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife, Emma Dale, in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military gravesite honors will be conducted by the All- Firing Squad. His family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m.

Born Aug. 1, 1936, in Knox County, she was the daughter of William and Maud (Meyer) Langford. Patty was a homemaker. EMMONS The Rev. Merle L. Emmons, 83, 1031 N. 14th died at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, April 16, 2006, at Colonial Assisted Living.
Born July 14, 1922, in Knox County, he was the son of Edward and Eliza (Combs) Emmons. Merle grew up and worked on the Brevoort Farms. He graduated from the Frankfort Pilgrim College in 1950 and was ordained a minister in 1951. In 1951, he started a little mission in Vincennes and in 1955 he built the Wesleyan Holiness Tabernacle where upon his retirement he donated the church to the Pilgrim Holiness Church Association. He also ministered to inmates at the Knox County Jail and broadcast the Wesleyan Holiness Hour on the local radio station until his death.
He also served in the Navy during World War II. His wife, Norma Marie Emmons, died Aug. 10, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Edwards and Eliza (Combs) Emmons; three brothers; and three sisters. Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Self and her husband, Jim, of Vincennes; two sons, Phillip Emmons and his wife, Theresa, of Paducah, and David Emmons and his wife, Loretta, of Monroe City; one brother, Larry Emmons of Vincennes; eight grandchildren and three -grandchildren of Eads.

11, 1918, in Vincennes, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Simnick) Speth. She was a member of the Old Cathedral Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella. She was a 1936 graduate of St. Rose Academy. She married Albert J.
Haag, and he preceded her in death in 1985. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Speth, Cornelius "Bud" Speth and Joseph "Duke" Speth; one sister, Cecelia Speth; and her parents. Survivors include two children, Elaine A. Haag of Vincennes and James J. Haag of Vin- County Auditor Terry Ewer said.

Smith retired from Marathon Oil Company with 35 years of service. He was a member of American Legion Post 69 in Robinson and was a former member of the Robinson Moose Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Robinson. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the Merchant Marines. He was also a veteran of the Korean War where he served in the U.S. Marine Corp.
His wife, Arva M. (Poland) Smith, preceded him in death, along with two brothers, Roger and Harold. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Susan Hills and her husband, Marty, of Robinson; one son, Michael Smith of West Salem; one stepdaughter, Sandy Dant of Washington, one sister, Kathleen Hill of Olney; one granddaughter, Nicole Hills of Robinson: one step James LaMarche of Washington, and a special friend, Barnetta Smith of Robinson. Executive director for financial services Darrel Bobe asked the board to approve a $39,948 bid from Martinsville Roofing to finish the roofing project at the Vocational Technology area at Lincoln High School.
After the 2004 4 inspection Martinsville Roofing replaced an area of the roof but it was not finished due to lack of funds. "The 2005 inspection said we needed to finish the roofing," Bobe said..
